In Psalms 100, we are encouraged “to make a joyful noise unto the Lord … and to come before his presence with singing.” If you love to sing or play an instrument, we have a place for you!
Chancel Choir
From traditional hymns to contemporary classics, the Chancel Choir provides music most Sundays at the 11:00 am service during the school year. In addition to music during worship, we perform a few special concerts during the year including a Christmas cantata. Jordan Hofmeister, Chancel Choir Director, holds a BM in Music Education (with an emphasis in trombone) from Georgia Southern University.
We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm. There are no auditions for this choir; the only requirement is a sense of humor. For more information, contact Jordan at choirdirector@heritagepres.com.
Angel Bell Choir
The Angel Bells are a multigenerational choir and provide music at the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services once a month during the school year. Like the Chancel Choir, it also takes the summer off. The choir rings under the direction of Lea Thorusen, who has played bells in various churches since 1978 while her husband was in the armed services. Lea is an accomplished ringer, and is one of the original members of the choir when we obtained our first two octaves in 2000. The Angel Bells rehearse from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday evenings. For more information, contact Lea Thorusen at bells@heritagepres.com.
Praise Kids Choir
Our younger disciples meet every Sunday morning at 9:45 for 30 minutes of music before class. We sing, play hand bells and use a variety of rhythm instruments. We also learn the monthly service music; this helps them transition into the worship services by singing the responses with the older folks. The group is directed by Merry Willis, who has been attending Heritage since 1999. She is a member of the Chancel and Angel Bell choirs, and previously directed the children’s choir “Cheerful Cherubs” for 5+ years in the early 2000s. She is assisted by Lea Thorusen, our Hand Bell director, and Mary Bennett, a member of the Chancel Choir. These dedicated volunteers are excited to have the opportunity to help our children learn, praise, and worship through music during the Sunday School.
